Editor’s Note: Exhibitors in the General Tool/Homeowner section of the floor at The Rental Show 2015 in New Orleans were busy showcasing their products and writing orders from the moment the floor opened on Feb. 23 until it closed down on Feb. 25. “I sold more in the first day here than I did during the entire week of last year’s show,” said David Tucker, national accounts manager, DOT Tiedown & Lifting Equipment, Easley, S.C. The variety, efficiency and versatility of the products available, in addition to a large number of Show-Only Specials were drawing attendees into the booths for a closer look. From Tier 4 compliance and alternative power to stronger components and lighter machines, it seemed there was something new and innovative to pique the interest of everyone interested in this segment of rental. 

The FS 5000 D and FS 7000 D flat saws from Husqvarna Construction Products N.A., Olathe, Kan., are the first in the company’s series of Tier 4 diesel flat saws. The 1,738-lb. FS 5000 D is powered by a 48-hp Yanmar diesel Tier 4/Stage IIIB compliant engine and has a 36-in. blade capacity. The 2,307-lb. FS 7000 D has a 74-hp Deutz commonrail diesel Tier 4/Stage IIIB engine, with a 42-in. blade capacity. The company says the models offer more power and torque, and have a new electronic display.

The universal concrete life (UCL) diamond core bit from Hilti, Tulsa, Okla., has taller segments at 12 mm, capacitor discharge (CD) welding technology and is filled with high-quality diamonds for 50 percent more life, the company says. Hilti UCL core bits are optimized to perform on both low and high horsepower core rig motors, allowing rental owners to keep one bit on hand for wet, rig-based coring applications, the company says. Users can determine the connection of their choice, including Hilti quick connect, which fits into Hilti core rigs.

The 30 kVA 30REZGT compact gaseous-fueled generator from Kohler Engines and Power Systems, Kohler, Wis., can switch between optional onboard LP fuel tanks and external LP liquid, LP gas or natural gas fuel sources. The model features a 3L industrial powertrain engine and optional onboard LP tanks, which are built for a 24-hour run time, with extended time when connected to an external LP or natural gas supply. The generator also features a three-way catalyst and an electronic isochronous governor. The generator can be customized with optional add-ons like cam-locks and a voltage selector switch. The 30REZGT also is eligible for incentives of $1,000 to $3,500 from the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC).



The Spider Cutters™ from General Pipe Cleaners, a div. of General Wire Spring Co., McKees Rocks, Pa., have both front and rear blades, which means cutting starts as the cable feeds into the line and continues as it retracts. The Double U-Cutter comes in 3- and 4-in. versions, as does the Double Heavy-Duty Side Cutter.

The iTPG Series inverter generator from Tsurumi Pump, Glendale Heights, Ill., comes in either the iTPG-12000H single-phase model or the iTPG-115000HT three-phase model, and features 100 percent copper windings as well as heavy-duty vibration isolators. Both weigh 490 lbs. and have a 60Hz generator with an inverter voltage regulation system. Both models are powered by a 22.1-hp Honda GX690 engine, and have an electric start and low-oil pressure alert system. The iTPG-12000H has a maximum output of 12kVa, with 120/240V dual voltage. The 12000H measures 37.4 in. by 26.7 in. by 36.5 in., and has a 9.25-gal. tank. Run time at half-load is 7.3 hours at 67dB, at 20 ft. with idle control on. The iTPG-15000HT has a three-phase generator with a maximum output of 15kBA and an AC voltage of 460V. The 15000HT measures 37.4 in. by 26.7 in. by 36 in., has a 9.25-gal. tank and has a running time at half-load of 5.7 hours at 67dB, at 20 ft. with idle control on.

The Classen HSC18 Pro sod cutter from Classen, a div. of Schiller Grounds Care, Southampton, Pa., comes in two lengths — 52 in. or 55 in. — and has an integrated rear swivel wheel that can be secured in place for straight-line cutting or used for turning. The sod cutter has two engine options, a 5-hp Honda GX160 or an 8-hp Honda GX240, as well as a Hydro-Gear® hyddrostatc drive transmission and power reverse, which allows speeds as high as 4.7 mph. The cutting blade, centered on the bottom of the machine, cuts 20 strokes per second, and the cutting depth can be adjusted down to 2.5 in., the company says. The standard cutting blade is 18 in., with optional blade sizes of 12, 16, 20 and 24 in.

The DDG-9 direct drive floor grinder from EDCO — Equipment Development Co., Frederick, Md., features flexible head assembly and a removable dust ring for edge grinding. The 81-lb. grinder requires a 110V outlet and is compatible with the EDCO Vortex 200 for dust-free working. The handle folds for ease of transport and Dyma-Slider accessories are available for a variety of applications. The machine is designed for removing hard coatings, working in compact areas and can resurface hundreds of square feet per hour, the company says.

The self-propelled compost spreader from Maxim Manufacturing Corp., Sebastopol, Miss., has a hydrostatic variable speed drive, and a seven-level spreading depth selector. The hopper measures 24 in. by 14 in. by 36 in., and can hold 6.4 cu. ft. of dry material. The 272-lb. machine has an overall width of 41 in., an overall height of 46 in. a spreading width of 24 in. and dual wheel differential drive. The spreader has the option of a GX120 Honda engine, a 5.5 GT Briggs engine or a 4-hp Robin/Subaru engine.

The 14-in. MM4 power cutter from Makita, La Mirada, Calif., is designed to eliminate the need for separate mixed oil and fuel in the can, preventing engine failure due to improper mix. The cutter runs at a noise level of 93.2 dB and has a fuel consumption of 0.45 gal./hr. Its smoother idle is designed to allow for continuous operation, the company says. The MM4 features a 4.1-hp engine and maximum cutting depth of 413/16 in. The integrated retracting aluminum wheels are designed to reduce fatigue during long, straight cuts and prevent movement during idle.

The RM98 Brush Rover ride-on mower from Orec America, Kent, Wash., features a hydrostatic drive for variable speed control, as well as a low center of gravity and locking differential for added traction. The single fixed rotary blade has two rotary flail blades on either end for cutting in heavy brush, the company says. The mower has a cutting with of 38.4 in. and an adjustable cutting height of 2.0 in. to 4.7 in. In addition, the Briggs & Stratton engine has a top speed of 7.5 mph forward or 3.4 mph in reverse.

The Model One hand-held, one-man operated hole digger from Ground Hog, San Bernardino, Calif., has a Honda GX35, 360-degree, four-stroke engine, with a sealed, grease-lubricated transmission and hardened steel gears. Feautres include heavy-duty ball bearings, a centrifugal clutch that allows slippage on obstacles and a trigger-type return-style throttle, as well as powder-coated handlebars. The hole digger can handle up to an 8-in. auger and the company has augers available in 2-, 4-, 6- and 8-in. sizes with a reversible blade design.

The Beacon 980 wide area LED tower light from Lind Equipment, La Mirada, Calif., is designed for use in a variety of applications, including construction, military, events and maintenance. The 300W bright white light has a light temperature of 4,500K with no blue tint. The LED lights are rated for more than 50,000 hours, eliminating the need to replace bulbs, the company says. The light is 24 in. long, 14 in. high and 6 in. deep with a heavy-duty frame, cast-aluminum housing and polycarbonate lenses. It has a weatherproof rating of IP65 and is designed for instant startup at full output even in cold temperatures, the company says.

The Multifan V-FloFan from Vostermans Ventilation, Bloomington, Ill., features an aerodynamic-shaped conical outlet to guide airflow and distribute it over a wide surface without the velocity of high air speed, the company says. The fan is available in four models, ranging from 120V to 460V. The fans offer air volume flow from 3,100 cfm to 3,250 cfm. The sound pressure level for all models, when measured at 23 ft. free blowing distance, is 49 dB. The motors and fans have been developed and produced according to future energy-efficiency directives, reducing energy costs through vertical airflow and assimilation lighting, the company says.

The GD 16T21 gasoline dual-direction log splitter from Boss Industrial, Naperville, Ill., is designed to provide a four-second split time. It is built on a small chassis to save space, but still offers 16 tons of splitting force, with a 6.5-hp Kohler engine and a maximum splitting length of 21 in., the company says. The machine also features three-position control, one-handed operation and extra-wide log trays.

Van Air Systems air drying system 800-840-9906; vanairsystems.comThe Prep 40 air drying system from Van Air Systems, Lake City, Pa., is a forklift skid package that includes an afetrcooler, moisture separator, pre- and after-filters and an HL series heatless dryer. Key components are protected by a heavy-duty structural steel framework and the “sled-style” skid is designed to help with maneuverability. Using 15V of power, the Prep 40 is designed to deliver compressed air with a pressure dew point of -40, residual oil content of 0.008 ppm and removal of particulates greater than 1 micron. The system is available in sizes matching common portable compressor sizes, including 400, 800, 1,200 and 1,600 scfm, the company says. Optional pneumatic controls also are available.

The Agria 9600 remote control rotary mulcher from Agria-Werke GmbH, Möckmühl, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, is designed to mow high grass and bushes in areas sloped up to 50 degrees, powered by a remote control. The 9600 has a working width of 44 in. and a cutting height of 2 to 7.8 in. The high grass sickle mulcher mowing attachment features a two-blade carrier with four swing blades. The two-cylinder, four-stroke 27-hp Briggs & Stratton gas engine offers three speed ranges.

The Capspray™ portable paint sprayer from Titan, Plymouth, Minn., runs at 10.5 psi and comes with a 30-ft. hose that has a 5-ft. whip. The machine includes a five-stage tangential turbine and a Maxum Elite paint gun. The sprayer itself can be used for interior painting with varnish, paint or latex, and weighs about 3 lbs. when filled with paint. The nozzle is designed to allow users to produce a round spray for detail work, or a wide horizontal or vertical spray for covering an area.

The DoodleScrub from Square Scrub, Jonesboro, Ark., features a 4,399 rpm ¼-hp motor and draws 1.1 amps. At 23 lbs., the DoodleScrub offers the same weight per sq. in. as the company’s standard machine, but is sized to fit into tight spaces, allowing it to clean and prepare floors around stationary equipment, the company says. The DoodleScrub is designed for use in a variety of applications, such as cleaning tile and grout, and rubberized stairs.

The CE414-350 electric high-speed cut-off saw from Norton Construction Products, Stephenville, Texas, features a Norton Clipper motor with a maximum  4.3 hp. and an electric starter. The 14-in. blade guard capacity and 3.93-in. blade flange diameter is designed to allow a 5-in. maximum cutting depth. The saw is  11.1 in. high and 11.3 in wide with a maximum working saw length of 22.7 in. and has a 9.8-ft. cord. The machine also features LED overload indicator, IC soft start and thermal overload protection. The saw also has a ground fault interrupter, allowing for use in wet or dry applications, the company says.

The Goliath 4x4 mower from Seco Group, Ridgefield, Ct., features a heavy-duty ATV body style and a 36-in. rough cut deck designed to cut through heavy vegetation, including saplings up to 1.5 in. in diameter, the company says. Constructed of heavy-duty steel, the 7.7-in.-long blade can be positioned straight and 15 or 30 degrees to both left and right. Four cutting height positions allow the Goliath a cutting height of 2 in. to 5.3 in. The machine is available with either a Briggs & Stratton Vanguard 23-hp V-Twin or Kawasaki FS730V 26-hp V-Twin engine.

The Pearl scrape and grind pad attachment from Pearl Abrasive Co., Commerce, Calif., is designed to remove materials such as mastic and thinset, and grind the concrete at the same time. When used with the Hexpin® carbide plate, six or 12 pads can be used. The pad can be used wet or dry on concrete surfaces and spring-mounted pins allow for use on uneven surfaces, the company says.

The commercial-grade Easy Motion multi-purpose floor machine from Bissell BigGreen Commercial, Plymouth, Mass., has a ½-hp motor, 175-rpm pad speed, 12-in. pad drive size and a 13-in. cleaning path. The company says the orbital drive allows cleaning without torque, gouging or swirling. The machine is designed to remove allergens from carpet, buff and sand hard wood floors, and clean ceramic tile and grout. In addition, it can be used with vinyl, brick, slate and marble. It comes with a 30-ft. grounded three-wire 18/3 power cord, with the tank sold separately.

The 34-ton horizontal/vertical and horizontal log splitter from Ramsplitter Log Splitter, Rockford, Ill., is designed for applications in both the horizontal and vertical positions. The operating height is 33 in. from ground to top plate and 27 in. horizontal, with a 25-in. log opening. The log splitter features torsion spring axles with 12-in. rims, brake lights, 1/8-in. wedge wear strips and double hydraulic oil filters. It is available with a variety of engines, including the Honda 13-hp GX390, 14-hp Robin, 13-hp Vanguard Briggs & Stratton or 16-hp Vanguard V Twin.

The Torch Cam waterproof DVR video flashlight from RadioBoss 2-Way Radios, Farmingdale, N.Y., is designed to take point-and-shoot video recordings while functioning as a flashlight. The waterproof flashlight has an IP rating of 67+ and features audio recording, time stamping, snapshot capability, a 4500 mAh rechargeable lithium ion battery and provides more than 1,000 lumens. Video quality is 720p for HQ, 480 for LQ and 1080p for snapshots. It has five flashlight modes, including lo, med, hi, strobe and SOS. It is PC compatible with the included USB cable and uses micro SD cards up to 32GB.

The iDig Touch system from Inteq Distributors/Futtura, Oklahoma City, uses electronic angle sensors to communicate wirelessly with each other and the control box to calculate the real-time position of the bucket teeth or cutting edge. The system is designed to offer bucket position indication around a variety of obstacles for all excavating equipment, the company says. It features a series of three sensors that triangulate the bucket position at all times, with a fourth sensor to measure pitch, roll and machine rotation. In addition, the LED display and a control unit with suction mounts have quick-connect cradles with 12/24V accessory plugs. The system works with or without a laser and shows the operator the depth of cut in real time. It can be installed on more than 100 combinations of machines and buckets.

The Trelawny™ MHS5 concrete floor scabbler from CS Unitec, Norwalk, Conn., features five piston heads that supply 6,500 total blows per minute and provide a cutting width of 11 in. This heavy-duty, pneumatic, walk-behind scabbler consumes 80 cfm of air at 90 psi. The MHS5 includes an integrated dust shroud and vacuum port to reduce hazardous dust and maintain worksite cleanliness when connected to a dust collection vacuum, the company says. The scabbler is offered in two models— MHS5 Model 159.5050 with five-point bush hammer heads for keying concrete and removing layers of aggregate particles on new concrete, and Model 159.5075 with nine-point bush hammer heads for creating bond profiles for epoxies, urethanes and thin overlays. Both models feature large wheels for rough terrain and a built-in dead man’s handle designed for operator safety.

The American Cart Multi Mover XT hand truck with rear wheels from Granite Industries, Archbold, Ohio, features 10-in. no-flat wheels with an outside wheel width of 31½ in. and fold-down rear wheels to add stability and assist in the transport of items like tents or inflatables, the company says. The Multi Mover XT also has a welded one-piece frame and a 31-in.-by-27-in. folding foot plate to add support for oversized loads. The 85-lb. mover has a 1,000-lb. capacity, designed for moving oversized bulky items such as tents, inflatables, tables and chairs, roofing materials and propane tanks. The Multi Mover XT has overall dimensions of 31 ft. by 63 in.

The Ren-O-Thin power rake from Ryan, Johnson Creek, Wis., has been redesigned to include a foldable handle for transportation, a spring-type 0.109-in. reel at 0.75-in. spacing and an improved bubble shield designed to prevent thatch from building up under the deck. In addition, an optional 0.76-cu.-ft. capacity seed box is available with handle-mounted controls to regulate seed flow. The height adjustment allows users to fine-tune depth from 1 in. above ground to 7/8 in. below. The unit is available with either a Honda four-cycle GX160 or Briggs & Stratton four-cycle Vanguard™ engine. The machine is 27 in. wide, 55.5 in. long and 39.0 in.  high with an operating width of 18 in.

The Delta-Q IC650 industrial battery charger from Delta-Q Technologies, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, is designed with a rugged die cast aluminum enclosure. Configured as a drop-in replacement for all major scissor lift brands, the 650W IC650 is available in 24V, 36V, and 48V configurations. Two-way communication through the USB host port allows users to download charge cycle data or update charger software with a USB flash drive. It also is designed for onboard and  off-board applications with optional CAN bus onboard communication functionality. The HP10-B pneumatic hydrostatic test pump from Rice Hydro, Carson City, Nev., is designed for high-pressure testing of oil, gas and steam lines. The pneumatic pump requires 100 psi of standard shop air for maximum operation, the company says. It also features a steel enclosure with wheels for portability, roll-cage construction to protect the pump from damage and dual pressure gauges for comparison readings. It has a pressure range from 1,000 to 10,000 psi, built-in high-pressure ball valves and fittings, and stainless-steel liquid-filled gauges for accurate readings. The 120-lb. pump is designed to start and stop while under pressure, the company says.

The Gum Reaper from Powr-Flite, Fort Worth, Texas, uses concentrated pressure to break down gum molecules in three to five seconds, allowing the removal of up to 700 gum spots per hour. The rechargeable batteries provide up to 36 hours of continual use, the company says. Brushes are available in brass for hard surfaces and nylon for carpets and soft surfaces. The vegetable-derived cleaner is designed for safe indoor use and debris can be swept away with a broom, eliminating water waste. The remover also can be used to clean grout stains.

The Quick Connect Docking Panel™ series of emergency backup power panels from Power Temp Systems, Houston, offer 100 to 400 amp configurations and feature aluminum construction with a powder-coated finish, Castell Trapped Key Safety Interlock and color-coded Cam-Lok input/output connectors. The panels are prewired to help with installation and are NEC, OSHA and UL/cUL 1640 compliant. In addition, the panels are rated NEBA Type 3R for outdoor use. The wall mounted units are designed to mount onto an existing disconnect by using trapped key interlocks. All wall and pad mount units have Cam-Lok and hardwire capabilities for applications where no Cam-Lok cables are available.
